Matcha Maimukashi by Maiko
This is the third matcha of Maiko that I'm reviewing.
It's usually shown with a pink/red wrapping online, but the colors seem to change for all their products, so don't be confused.
General Info
Once again, as also seen before with some of their other matcha, the 20g tin is wrapped in paper with a beautiful design and great texture. I paid 29,95โฌ for this, which is on the expensive side, but cheaper than previous orders. Maiko says it is very nutty and there is almost no bitterness/astringency, and it is suitable for both koicha and usucha.
Color and Smell
The color is beautiful; a darker green compared to the usual, which I personally prefer because that tends to be the nuttier, more umami matcha out there.
The smell of the powder has to be one of my favorites so far; very sweet but bold, like a mix of honey and pine wood. The hot tea is similarly fragrant.
Taste
It's indeed a nutty, umami, kind of chocolate-y (for a matcha) taste with a noticable sweetness that is natural and not artificial. It comes out even more when you prepare it iced.
The texture is very velvety, creamy, thick, so it's a more "heavy" matcha, which I love. Something to note is that it clumps very easily, so you need to be thorough with the sifting and whisking and then don't let it settle on the bottom too long.
Conclusion
I really enjoyed this one, definitely in my top 3, I'd say, and my favorite from Maiko so far. A clear recommendation!
