Matcha Koetsu by Maiko
This is my second one by Maiko, following my review of the Matcha Kotobuki, this time it's the Matcha Koetsu.
General Info
This 30g tin too is wrapped in beautiful high quality design paper with golden highlights, like their other one.
I paid 36,50 Euro for it at Chanomiya. It won the silver prize in a competition in France in 2019.
Color and Smell
The color is light green, average, but pretty. Not faded or dull.
The smell is warm, slightly forest-y, and surprisingly honey-sweet.
Taste
It feels like a split experience that I didn't have before from a matcha. It's slightly umami and savoury on the tongue, but also a bit bitter on the roof of the mouth and upper back of the throat. It's generally a more mild matcha - if you want it more bold, you might need to increase the amount of powder. I think it leans more to the bitter, grassy side of the scale. It's also not as soft, creamy, velvety, emulsified as some other matcha I had, it's instead rather clear, liquid, watery as the mouthfeel.
Conclusion
I left this one in the drafts for quite a while in case I have more thoughts while drinking more of it - but I really can't think of more! It's fine and good, but it doesn't exactly stick out to me either. It's an easy, solid choice with not much to say about it that neither angers me or excites me.
